The expressiveness in Gisella Ardizzone’s works

 Testo di Giuseppe Mendola

Expressiveness preluding that certainly encouraging identity, with good average results, in work bearing witness to commitment and artistic vocation.

In this a reality worth receiving because it is precise preparation for making way in the world of art. The scale of the tones echoes the chords of painterly equilibrium and correlates the representative obligations with the text completing the work to be achieved.

Gisella Ardizzone assimilates experiences in vast themes ranging from landscapes to dwelling milieus with works absolutely exemplifying a tenacious volition connected to love for her land in which she succeeds in giving scope to beauty in the most significant aspects of shapes and colours.

The nature expressed in her pictures is the fruit of real certainties in life with events that have place and space bringing out a dynamic expression in the use of light where every form takes on luminous vibrations.

Ardizzone’s emotive charge gives tension to the ideal movement of compositions to bear witness to progressive self-imposition by the figurative through the effect of chromatic metamorphoses with particulars allusion to the asperities of a Sicily that is rich in colours but has sharp rupestrian traits on Etna and in the volcanic Aeolian Islands.

  Gisella Ardizzone's Art

The Eolian Islands are a place of secret, magic: the magical spirit of rocks, fire and ash contrasting with the brilliant blue waves of the sea. The charm of the Eolian Islands cannot easily be found in the restless comings and goings of the summer tourist season: it is a charm that comes to the fore in the twilight hours when the tides bring with them the taste of salt and the sky takes on purple and pearl shades before the fall of darkness.

This secret magic, this charm with its varied shades and sudden clues, is brought to life by the pensive brushwork of Gisella Ardizzone in her intensely meaningful canvases.

They are swift jottings in which the environment unexpectedly gives way to apparently strange symbols - ... a group of candles on a dark blue background, twisted "fringes" brought down like a curtain, sharp black rocks gashed by red and white, unusually shaped primevalplants... - Are they, the islands or the human, resolve to be at one with nature, which awaits shrouded in veiled mists?

This is perhaps the first - not the last - question: while the wind and the wave, of the Mediterranean beat relentlessly against the deep blues of the canvases- .

   Sensation

She attempts to restore spontaneous contact with nature, not as a momentary escape from the realities of urban life but as a continuous and regenerative immersion searching for that “mana” which survives like a larva in the deepest part of the most sensitive souls, despite being overwhelmed by technological progress. Obviously, this primeval state cannot be completely, achieved but its appeal creates the conditions which bring her works to life.
Their simplicity restores to us the primitive astonishment with which the fìrst men became aware of their surroundings, amazed and fearful.
This is the source of her instinctive ability, not only to understand these sensations, but also al to convey them to others.
